Dag drie: “Lydingsfees van Jawe”-“Opstandingsfees

Hebreërs4:4

For he spake of the Seventh Day on this wise,

And God did rest the Seventh Day from all his works.

and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Now the next morningthat followed the day of the preparation,

het die hoëpriesters en die Fariseërs vergader

the chief priests and Pharisees came together

Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day

. . . answered the angel ... the women . . .

Matteus28:1-4

In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn

towards the First Day of the week, came May Magdalene

and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

2 Maar net toe was daar ’n groot aardbewing want ’n engel

And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel

of the Lord descended from heaven, and came

and rolled the stone from the door, and sat on it.

His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.

And for fear of him the keepers did shake,

en bewusteloos geword soos dooies.

and became as dead.

Dag drie: “Baie heiliges

Matteus28:5a

. . . het die engel aan die vroue verduidelik . . .

Many bodies of the saints which slept arose

and came out of the graves after his resurrection

The First day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene

by Simon Petrus en by die ander dissipel vir wie Jesus lief was,

to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved,

and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre,

and we know not where they have laid him.

Markus16:1

but entering, found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

Toe gaan kyk Petrus en Johannes

Johannes20:1,3-10

Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came

to the sepulchre.6b and Simon Peter went into the sepulchre

together in a place by itself.8 Then went in also the other disciple,

which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

9 maar hulle het nog gladnie die Skrif verstaan nie dat Hy moet οὐδέπω γὰρ ᾔδεισαν τὴν γραφὴν, ὅτι Δεῖ αὐτὸν

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must

[Cf. 19:27]

Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

Lukas24:19...29 Oorvertel:

Certain women also of our company made us astonished,

nadat hulle diepste vroegoggend by die graf was

which were early at the sepulchre

And when they found not his body, they came, saying,

that they had seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.

And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre

en dinge gevind soos die vroue inderdaad vertel het;

and found it even so as the women had said:

maar Hom het hulle nie gesien nie.

but him they saw not.

Toward evening the day far spent ... 19 they said to him ...

and beside all this, today is the third day since

delivered him to be condemned to death and have crucified him.

Lukas24:12      Petrus gaan wéér kyk

Petrus het nog so gestaan toe hardloop hy graf toe,

Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre;

buk, en sien die kledingstukke, net so, alleen lê.

and stooping down he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves,

Hy het teruggegaan, verwonderd ... oor die gebeure.

and departed wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῇ ἐκεῖνοι Γύναι, τί κλαίεις;

And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou?

Sy sê vir hulle: Omdat hulle my Here weggevat het,

And the angel answered and said unto the women,

Julle moenie bang wees nie! Want ek wéét dat julle soek Jesus

Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus,

which was crucified.6 He is not here: For he is risen,

as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen

from the dead; and behold, he goeth before you into Galilee;

daar sal julle Hom sien! Verstaan, ek bevéél julle!8 Net daar

8 καὶ …

there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.8 And they ... quickly

departed ... from the sepulchre with fear and great joy

did run to bring his disciples word.

And as they went to tell his disciples,

behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail.

And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go

en verkondig aan my broedersdat hulle na Galilea mag gaan;

tell my brethren that they go into Galilee,

daar sal hulle My sien.11 En net toe hulle gaan,

and there shall they see me.11 Now when they were going,

behold, some of the watch came into the city

14And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

Hebrew

Strong's Dictionary for the Greek word "agei" or "ago")

Please show me a verse where ago or agei is translated "is," besides Luke 24:21? And that word that is translated "since" is G575, and it means "away," or "away from."  So, "today LEADS (G71) the third day AWAY FROM (G575), and that is about as plain as Greek as it can get.  Blessings in The Name, Hebrew.

GE

Young's Analytical Concordance gives Luke 24:21 for the only occurrence. Granted.

Marshall also has "this is the third day leading since these things happened". But that's an of no value pleonasm.

Luke expresses the idea of “away from” with ‘apo’-‘since’.

'Agoh', 'to be', 'to be old / get old', 'to age'-- from the very word 'agoh' - 'agei' - the English got "ageing"!

'Agei' only intensifies what already is <<plain Greek>>.

In context, 'agei' is the very day "today...the LATE / AGED First Day of the week ... third day since / away from these things which [aph' hou tauta] happened [egeneto].

"We trusted that it had been He who before long would have redeemed Israel, but alas, with all these things (going on today), today, third day since those things (20how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him...) happened, running out, yea, some women (only further) upset us...

Note, no Article, "today, third day..."

Compare the word "ages", Ephesians 2:7; 3:5,21 Colossians 1:26 [tas geneas tou aiohnos tohn aiohnohn] Cruden, "The whole continuance..." of, 'being' then!

Now the third day (tritēn tautēn hēmeran agei). A difficult idiom for the English. “One is keeping this a third day.” And

he is still dead and we are still without hope.

GE

Vincent doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Alter

Vincent… The best texts omit to-day.

GE

The best texts? Tischendorf, Westcott & Hort, Textus Receptus? Check it out  friend, it’s there, in the TR at least!

And what about all the other manuscripts ‘sehmeron’ is in?

Omitting ‘sehmeron’ in any case makes no difference to the meaning of the passage as a whole. In fact whereas with ‘sehmeron’ Sunday third dayers could perhaps have felt happier, without ‘sehmeron’ they have less than nothing to celebrate about.

Alter

Vincent… The phrase forms an idiom which cannot be neatly rendered. Literally it is, “He (Christ) is passing (ἄγει) this day as the third.” Rev., Literally it is, “He (Christ) is passing (ἄγει) this day as the third.” Rev., It is now the third day since, etc.

GE

Trying to imitate Robertson. To what lengths will Sunday worship go! It’s unbelievable! Even in their nightmares they stand in unison against the Sabbath of the Lord Jesus’ Resurrection Day.

Alter

Expositor's Greek Testament

—ἄγει: probably to be taken impersonally = agitur, one lives this third day since. So Grotius and many others. Other suggestions are that χρόνος or ὁ Ἰησοῦς is to be understood (cf. Acts 19:38).

Jamieson, Faussett, Brown

besides all this—not only did His death seem to give the fatal blow to their hopes, but He had been two days dead already, and this was the third.

GE

Tried to let duplicity serve their Sunday resurrection propaganda, but failed, as could be expected. Nevertheless the last thing about which there is absolutely no duplicity in Luke 24:21, is that a person, Jesus, is the subject of ‘agei’.

Alter

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

And besides all this, today is the third day, since these things were done; which is either mentioned, as an aggravation of the ignorance of the stranger, that these things should be done so lately, as within three days,

GE

Alter

Barnes'… This they did not understand; but it is not improbable that they looked to this day expecting something wonderful, and that the visit to the sepulchre had called it to their recollection, and they were more and more amazed when they put all these things together. As if they had said, "The third day is come, and we have not seen him. Yet we begin to remember his promise - the angels have informed us that he is alive - but we do not know how to put these things together, or what to make of them."

GE

Alter

Pulpit Commentary

But yet terrible and despairing as was the story of Cleopas and his friend, their tone was not quite hopeless; for they went on, "And now we have come to the third day since they crucified him." No doubt they dwelt a short space on the expression, "third day," …

GE

…ridiculous! In any case, there’s no <<expression, "third day,">> in Luke 24:21. It is plain telling Jesus WHAT the disciples “hoped / trusted He would become” for them, but “today … on the First Day … the third day since … they delivered Him over to be condemned and crucified Him”, it for them, instead, was vanishing.

This is where ‘agei’ applies in raw historic reality of the current day, ‘sehmeron’, that “THAT what we TRUSTED that it had been HE, which should have REDEEMED Israel … INSTEAD INDEED this third day since these things were done (to Him) IS FADING AWAY!” The disciples’ TRUST IN THEIR REDEMPTION THROUGH JESUS, on this First Day of the week, “reached lowest point” - ‘agei’ in the valley of their despair. 4.30 p.m. 03 06 2017 and no moment before! Glory to God in the highest!

Alter

Pulpit Commentary… No doubt they dwelt a short space on the expression, "third day," telling the Stranger how their dead Master, when alive, had bade his friends watch for the third day from his death. The third day, he had told them, would be the day of his triumphant return to them; and, strangely enough, on the early morning of this third day, something did happen which had stirred, excited, and perplexed them. Certain women of their company, who had been early to the grave of the Master, meaning to embalm the corpse, found the sepulchre empty, and they came back reporting how they had seen a vision of angels there, who told them their Master lived.

GE

The after midnight “deepest of morning” visit of the several women at the grave Luke 24:1,2 // 22,23. Jesus long since had resurrected; in fact at least 9 hours before, “Sabbath mid-afternoon” Matthew 28:1.
